Device Design SKETCHING

At this first stage, we will collect all your requirements to the would-be enclosure: should the final product be standing or laying on a surface; if it needs to look uber-modern, posh, or conversely – boring to not attract burglars; should it resemble a certain natural object or be a classical geometrical figure. Based on this information, the designer creates up to 5 different sketches and presents them as 3D PDF and JPEG files to the client. After evaluating the options, the client can either re-iterate this process, or approve one of the sketches for further engineering study.


The designer updates and improves the sketch selected by the client as their preferred option. He incorporates all the feedback provided and goes into detailed visualizations to produce an elaborate 3D model of the enclosure.The resulting file provides accurate electronic housing design and layout suggesting a colour scheme and showing battery pack location; buttons’ shape, size and push depth. Tools we use are SOLIDWORKS, Pro/ENGINEER, and Adobe Photoshop.


The designer cooperates with a mechanical engineer in order to turn a creative enclosure on the outside into a technological and functional structure on the inside. The engineer’s job is to come up with placement and bonding of all parts, such as plugs, hinges, cover latch, jambs, and gaskets. We pay special attention to enclosure’s assimilability and adherence to shock, heating, dust proof and other requirements. The cost of mistake at this stage is high. Therefore, WWT’s enclosure experts will discuss with you possible tech limitations to find the best match to the product’s goal and budget.


We recommend manufacturing a device prototype or a sample of electronics case before sending a final batch production order to the factory. Our specialists will leverage our proven partners’ production facilities and support the whole process – both in person and with complete documentation. This is usually done by engineers on the manufacturing fabric’s side based on STP files provided by WWT’s engineers.
